Congratulations on your child being selected to attend the RYLA conference. It is quite an honor.
However, your next question inevitably is – “What is RYLA?”
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership development program run by Rotary District 7690 and includes presentations, activities, and workshops that cover a variety of topics, including:
Leadership fundamentals and ethics
Communication skills
Problem solving and conflict management
Community and global citizenship
Some things we do in large group settings, others in break-out sessions. For one day, we do hands-on community service to help our participants understand the value of giving to others and the positive experience which they receive in return. We have some fun by playing games and giving everyone a chance to relax and get to know each other. We end it all with a formal dinner and a motivational speaker to help bring into focus our participants’ new-found skills. We try hard to make sure it is an incredible learning experience, but also exciting and engaging to teens that end many times into life-changing experiences.
Your next question is usually – “What does it cost?”
This is the amazing part. Your student has been chosen which means their ENITRE conference has been covered already by a local sponsoring Rotary Club. Your student's dining, lodging, speakers, etc. are completely paid for. All we need from you are the permission forms filled out and sent back as well as getting your student to us on the first morning! Please make sure after it is all over your student gets a chance to go back and thank the local Rotary Club. The Clubs love to hear how great the experience was and their sponsorship was beneficial to the RYLArian!
We know that many times students are hesitant to leave their friends behind and try something new and unknown. While they may understand it is a great accolade for their college application, they may not realize what a blast it will be! Time after time, when our final Sunday session rolls around, RYLArians do not want to leave due to the great friendships they have made as well as the memories and positive experiences they have stored away.
You will probably still have questions about our conference. We want to make sure that you have the comfort level you need to allow your child to attend. We encourage you to check out the rest of our website, read all the details, and if you still have questions, please contact us directly at our email ryla7690@gmail.com. We know your RYLArian is going to love this experience. We want to make sure you do too.
Thank you in advance for your confidence in us. We cannot wait to see your child at RYLA!
